Icons Move a icon in the dock
Nothing easier, just click on the icon and drag it to its new position.
An other way is the right click menu, choose "Move this icon" wich contain a sub-menu.
In this sub-menu, you can:- move the icon once to the left
- or move the icon once to the right
- or place it in the first position
- or at the end
This trick is valid for launchers, applications, and applets, but different types will not mix.
You can also modify the order of a icon by it control panel.
Regarding image naming
You can either :
- give a complete path to the image (Eg: /path/to/image, or ~/path/to/image).
- give a picture name only.
That is the case for all the system launchers. In fact those launchers don't even specify any image extension !
To find its way, cairo-dock knows several icons' directory.
They are indicated in the conf file, and you can add as much as you want. The order of the directory will be taken in account when looking for icons. It's useful when you have installed themes, wich contain an icon set.
You can change an icon theme in 2 seconds without touching the launchers !
If the image name doesn't have an extension, Cairo-dock look for .SVG (vectoriel image, much better rendering when and SVG is done well) in priority, then .PNG, then .XPM.
Other extension aren't searched, because an icon without transparency is not very attractive
If cairo-dock doesn't find an icon, you will have an empty space in its place in the dock, but the launcher is still present and functional.
Note: Cairo-Dock support all types of format, but the most attractive are SVG, PNG, et XPM. The SVG have a graphic rendering significantly higher than others, it is therefore preferred. |
