Hi everyone,

Since the last release of Mint, I've literally done the impossible to get this to work, but I'm giving up. I've written this same post in the Linux Mint forums but they totally ignored me.
The thing is that I've always used Cairo-Dock with the option "Reserve space for dock" enabled. Everything worked like a charm for me in the 17.2 Cinnamon (2.6.13) x64 version of Mint, and four days ago I decided to move on to Sarah.

One of my main daily used programs is JDownloader 2, and I've found out that in this new version of Cinnamon coming with Mint (Cinnamon 3.0) there is a big "incompatibility" between this and Cairo-Dock when the "Reserve space for dock" option is enabled. The problem is that is almost impossible for JDownloader to get the focus, and also the rest of the programs that are open while JDownloader is running.

I've recorded a very short video to show you more clearly how it happens:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HX7GqQi-5g

Since the moment I close JDownloader, everything goes back to its normal behavior. But while it's open, it's impossible to get the focus on any program, no matter if it's Firefox or just the Calculator, the computer simply thinks that I'm on the desktop as you can see in the video, and it's behaves like that, letting me choose desktop elements or showing me the desktop menu when I right click on the JDownloader window.

It's not a graphic card problem, nor any kind of driver incompatibility. I've also ruled out a problem in the JDownloader version as well as in the Cairo-Dock version, since both of them work well in the Mate Desktop, so I really think that it's related to Cinnamon. Maybe the implementation of the Cinnamon code in Cairo needs an upgrade?
So, what do you think?

This seem like a strange bug.

A few things I'd try :
- more window managers. Window placement and focus is their job, and the dock only shows what's active and select when clicked.
- get the dock out of the equation. How does it behave when you just have cinnamon and jdownloader?
- you mentioned the "reserve space". Does it happen only when it is active?

only thing I see that can bug a WM is that "reserve" space" really takes some desktop space for itself and for example moves the desktop background icons often managed by a file manager instance. So it could also make sense to try to blame the file manager if he refocus above windows. IIRC it's nemo, and can be closed with nemo -q
