We have a lot of spam on the website should we stop allowing guest to post request?

I hope we will not have to do that

Maybe I can try to block IPs.
But I don't know if it's made by robots because yesterday I changed the SPAM filter (users have to compute X times Y instead of X plus Y) and it seems we still have problems (but it's not hard to resolve this SPAM filter...)

Not directly related but a suggestion. I edited a spam post earlier on a resolved topic and it got me thinking that the 'resolved' button on a topic should also lock the topic.

That wouldn't directly solve the spam problem but it would limit where spam messages can be posted. I have noticed that resolved topics are a favourite of spam posters to target.

If the resolved button also locked the topic anyone who experiences the same issue can open a new topic and reference the topic that discusses the issue.

This would also prevent users from just tacking on a question in a resolved thread. If a user has an issue they should really be opening a new topic an not hijacking a resolved topic. Posting a question in a resolved topic can get over looked very easy and should really be presented as a new question.

As an addendum:

If we lock a topic that has been resolved then the icon changes to an X and not the green checkmark. I would suggest that if a topic is resolved then has spam it should not have a big red X as an icon it should still have the green checkmark icon.

By locking the topic with the resolved button it would prevent this. As moderators you could unlock a topic if you need to but users should be creating a new topic for issues even if they are similar to a resolved topic.

Yes, maybe we could do that but it can be annoying if this topic is not really solved, if the fix introduces a new problem, etc.

I guess that spammers prefer topics which are read by many people, which is maybe the case for topics with this 'Resolved' label.

The best solution is maybe to improve the anti-spam filter... or not having to possibility to post new comments as guest...

Thanks matttbe, I see what you are saying. The spam seems to have slowed down considerably for now so maybe the filters are helping and editing a few random spam messages is simple enough. The spam that is getting posted now is probably from individuals so we may be able to keep on top of it.

If you see some registered users which send spam messages, please report them to me

I even found how to delete threads impossible to open. (didn't risked it on the message locking an active thread)
