Around three days ago, all the program indicators, i.e. Skype, Radiotray, Calendar Indicator, Variety, Dropbox etc disappeared from my right-hand top dock.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with the latest Cairo-dock from the ppas. I also run Kwin as opposed to Compiz as Compiz is too resource heavy. I have tried it with Compiz and the indicators will not come back.

If I run gnome desktop all the indicators appear fine, but I would rather use Cairo-dock.

The only indicators I have left are Input Source, Sound, WiFi, Clock, Messages and On/Off.

I have tried both Notification area and Notification area old, but nothing has worked.

Any help appreciated.

When I load cairo-dock via the terminal, I get:

"Cannot create custom menu item of type 'unity.widgets.systemsettings.tablet.accesspoint'"

several times, which is obviously something to do with it.

Try to delete the files at ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme/plug-ins/Indicator-Generic
maybe it can help in some way.. also you can just rename all files extensions, that way the cairo-dock will not load them when started (theoretically) and will create another ones. Maybe this help to figure out if this is the problem..

Many thanks for your suggestion

I tried it and unfortunately it made no difference. No indicators still and still the same error messages when I start cairo-dock manually.

After moving my config directory, I lost all my configuration (easy to get back) but the indicators have all returned, so no idea what was going off there.

Hello,

Maybe there is something wrong with the configuration of 'Status-Notifier', aka Notification Area. (But it's strange to have this kind of problem).
You can try to just remove its config file:
rm -r ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme/plug-ins/Status-Notifier
and then reload the dock.
