This feature request was already introduced in the topic 5580 (GMail applet) but it's maybe better to open a new dedicated topic.
I think it can be interesting to have more possibilities of customisation for these quick-info.
- Currently, we can only change the font and the background colours. It would be nice to add a background, change the position (top/bottom center/left/right but also on the center with a bigger size => to have something like what we have with the GMail applet).
- Applets could also use custom background images, etc. e.g.: for musicPlayer, it's maybe better to place the time on the bottom center.
- We can also imagine a quick-info on the top right to indicate that there are X icons regrouped in this subdock's launcher.
- More than one quick-info could be used at the same time (it's already possible but only used by Keyboard-Indicator I think) and it can be interesting to have different backgrounds, e.g.: GMail applet already shows the number of unread mails but it could also indicate the number of new unread mails since last check/click, etc. It's better if these two info have a different background.
- As background, an image can be used (easier) but it can be interesting to display numbers into a simple circle or a rectangle with round borders (that we can change)

+1, because I think it would be better to centralize this, rather than having each applet doing what it wants
I'm not sure about letting the applets customizing them, it could get a bit messy |

I'm not sure about letting the applets customizing them, it could get a bit messy Yes, I was just thinking about having more than one quickinfo, if more than 2/3 chars have to be drawn (maybe better to do that on the centre of the applet) or if an important info has to be shown (with a red background) or just to have different colours (e.g. when monitoring many devices) |
