I know I've commented on this before BUT I love Cairo-dock and it drives me nuts when I have to search around on the bar to find where the new incidence of Thundermail, Mozilla, calibre etc have gone. They used to stay grouped. That was cool , logical and easy....please, please can we have that facility back?
Thanks |

they appear in the taskbar (if they don't have a launcher), which is where you placed it (by default, after the last launcher)
if they have a launcher, they appear either above it (in a sub-dock), next to it, or in the taskbar
so it's your choice |

Thank you for replying. I do not use sub docks and instances of launched programmes are never next to their launcher. They used to be sometime back but no longer after various updates. I run 12.10 with dock version 3.2.0. If it is once again possible to keep launched programmes next to their launcher would you be able to let me know how to do this?
Thank you |

sure
open the advanced configuration, go to Taskbar section, enable 'mix launchers and appli' and disable 'group windows of a same appli'
so basically disable everything in the 'Behaviour' except the first 2 options. |

Thank you for this tip. All my behaviour options are disabled. How do I re-enable them? For example taskbar tick is a dulled out grey. Thank you again. |

How do I re-enable them? For example taskbar tick is a dulled out grey. Simply enable the first option and then the second one. If you can't modify an option, simply modify the previous option |

Again thank you. I have now followed your instructions. This is not the result I was asking about. This leaves one launcher with icon integrated. I was asking - hence using the ideas section - if we could not have the option again of having icons automatically place themselves next to the launcher. In other words if I have two instances of Mozilla running I will have the launcher followed by the two icons. By running my mouse over them I can see which pages are running. The same applies to Nautilus. This used to be possible and I beg you to bring it back....please???????? It was a great facility. |

indeed, the behaviour is the following:
if you have 2 firefox windows, one will go to the launcher, and the other will go next to the launcher.
if you want to launch another firefox instance, shift+click on any of the firefox icons
if you separate the taskbar from the launchers, then all taskbar icons are placed together after/before the launchers |

Okay then I will make do with that and thanks for talking me through it. I did prefer the old system to be honest but will be happy enough with this. Thanks again. |

I have now set up the dock as you recommend. It works well for Firefox, Thunderbird, Terminal and many others but if I open Calibre, Synaptic or Microsoft word the launched programmes are scattered in various places. Do you know why it does not work for all my taskbar programmes?
Thanks again |

It's maybe because their windows' class is not correct? You can force the window class linked to a launcher from the config panel. (right click on a launcher / launcher's name / Edit / Extras / Class) |

The settings all seem identical with class being default for all. Should the class be something different for those that uncouple themselves from the launcher once launched?
Thank you |

so how did you set up the taskbar ?
microsoft apps can be troublesome, but the 2 other should be standard
can you provide a screenshot of the problem ? |

What screenshot would help best? A shot of the screen with one of the misbehaving icons open? |

I guess it can be interesting to see a screenshot when Calibre, Synaptic or Microsoft word is opened. (with a short description: what you should have and what you have instead) |

How do I load the screenshot? The image loader gives me a set of double paragraphs. What do I do with those? |

You can upload it on a server (e.g. Dropbox, uppix.net, imgur, etc.) and give us the weblink here. |

Hopefully you can find it here: https://www.dropbox.com/home#!/home/Cairo%20Dock.
If not I might need to add pour email to my shared folder setting
You will see a second calibre and synaptic open on the right hand side.
Thank you again |

Drop the image on the "drop to share" applet available in cairo-dock applets.
When it has finished uploading the file just do a ctrl + v on the website and your image will be available. |

Or copy this file to your Dropbox/Public directory, then do a right click on it / Copy the public link. |
