[cairo-dock-3.1.99.alpha0][ffgtk-0.8.4][NVIDIA Geforce GTX680 2048 MB]
Until 10 days or so ago, I had an icon of a running ffgtk[1] instance in my upper right dock of glx-dock, please look at the following screen shot (green square icon, 2nd icon in the upper right dock):
Since then it disappeard, most probably due to an update of cairo-dock packages through the update manager. I need this icon badly as it offers access to many functions of my router (Fritz!Box) which I cannot control otherwise.
For the moment, my workaround was to having added the "Notification Area Old" (systray) add-on which I permanently had to detach from the dock to make the ffgtk icon visible. The ffgtk icon now magically appears in this old and detached notification area and is useful. I dislike the fact, though, that it does not reside where it formerly was - simply side to side between the network and dropbox icons in the upper right dock.
FWIW, the ffgtk icon appears in Gnome's and XFCE's panels as it should.
TIA for any enlightenment and/or serious help

did you have the old systray enabled before too ?
usually, if both are available, apps will appear in the new one (provided they support the new protocol). So it might be a problem in ffgtk.
a simple way to know would be to downgrade the dock to the 3.1.2
another way is to launch d-feet and check that ffgtk has a "statusnotifier" object on the bus |

Though I dislike Unity and uninstalled a lot of unity related packages it seems that ffgtk requires the Unity package
so I ended up installing a bunch of Unity packages again and now the ffgtk status and interaction icon is back in the notification area (the new one, not the old notification area!).
Thanks, this thread might be marked as SOLVED |

ok, I gues that the Ubuntu guys have patched ffgtk to make it work with the new systray
which is a good thing, hopefully the Gnome guys will follow as well ! |
