Hi there,

I find it will be useful if one can switch among multiple music players within applet's menu instead of opening setting window of the applet and switching to desire player in the configuration part. If no one player is chosen there is open in the applet menu for finding out a started player, but the option missing if a player have been chosen . For example I use both banshee and amarok and switching in favor of mucisplayer applet between the two can be proceed only within the setting menu of Cairo-Dock.

Thanks.

Hello,

I already thought about this feature but I don't understand why you want to often switch between music players, can you give us an example?

PS: note that it's possible to create a small script (max 5 lines) to change the player in the musicplayer.conf file (with sed) and reload this applet (with dbus).

it could be possible to have 2 instances of the applet (not currently though), but I think it's a very limited feature.
Note that you can make the applet detect the current player (if it uses MPRIS2), but that's not automatic (the applet is designed to control 1 player, because you will first launch the player through the applet).

I thought that the applet can manage two players by simple manual switching between them with in applet menu. Having more instances of the applet will set more icons on the dock , that is not good solution for smaller monitors.
Yes I can give you a simple reason what is the advantage of managing two players - there is no player satisfying all one's needs , one can handle radio stations, manage lyrics with first player , while the other could have better or easier tracks setting and lack some of the options needed and presented by the first player, so having both players ready to use and set by ones flavor on one hand and having options to switch between them in the music player applet on the other hand solves the problem.

that should be possible, there is an entry in the menu "detect current player", if the player is not running.
maybe you can use it to switch between 2 players (if you don't open both at once)

Yes but I think this entry is only available if the user has chosen a player which is not in the list (or a player which uses MPRIS-2)

it should be available as soon as the currently controlled player is not running, I don't remember if that's the case now, maybe a small change is needed in the code
