What do you thing about that: having dynamical applet!
E.g.: if I launch Pidgin, then a new icon will appear in my dock as usual except that it's not a simple icon, it's the Pidgin applet.
Currently, there are a few applets that controls one or more applications: Pidgin, Deluge, Transmission, Liferea, GTG, XChat but also Tomboy, musicPlayer and all *Menu (GnoMenu, Lancelot, MintMenu and Cardapio).
What about an new option to launch these applets but only show it if a linked application is launched. |

It's like the option "hide icon" to Battery's applet, isn't ? Nice idea, that could be useful |

I think it's more like starting the applet instead of just displaying the taskbar icon. or maybe replace silently the launcher with the corresponding applet ? |

replace silently the launcher with the corresponding applet It's more: starting the applet when a corresponding application is available in the dock (or starting the applet in the background and display it when the application is launched)
What do you think about that?
It's like the option "hide icon" to Battery's applet, isn't ? I think we can also do that with Status-Notifier icon, no? |

nice idea
although it you often use a program, you will certainely keep it in your dock as a launcher (that's still its main purpose ), so replacing the launcher by the applet would be almost equivalent, and much easier to do than replacing the taskbar icon. |

Yes but I don't use Transmission or Deluge so often. But if I use it, I think it can be nice to have the quick info in the icon |

yep, it's just more difficult to do (I think)
but that's a nice idea |

Deluge's example is very good. It's true, I don't use really often this software (just sometime, when I need an "holiday's movie" ), but my dock have the deluge applet because in this case, it's really useful. It's just an example, and we can have a lot of other.
So I agree completely with the dynamical applet idea |

Up about this idea
Is it really difficult to implement now?
Maybe a new key can be added in the auto-load.conf file with the name of a .desktop file.
When loading third-party applets (but it can also work with musicPlayer applet), these .desktop files can be added to a list and when a new application is added, we can check if this .desktop file is in the list and load the applet? |

And how to implement that? |

that's a good question
maybe with an idle check that checks for new launchers
or when creating a new launcher
or something else |
