The current FAQ says:

My machine is too old to run a composite manager.
Don't panic, Cairo-Dock can emulate the transparency.
To get rid of the black background, simply enable the corresponding option in the end of the «System» module

However, the 'emulate transparancy' option appears to have disappeared from CD version 3.00

Hello,

This option has only been removed in the current development version (3.2.99) because it is now enabled by default.

For older versions, you can find it in the advanced mode of the config panel / System module.

(Note that it's maybe better to install the latest stable version from our repository (3.2.1) )
