I've just gotten Cairo-Dock and was wondering if there were a way to open directly to a file rather than the default program a file opens. That is, if I have, for instance, 3 different pdfs ( or docs or whatever) that I'd like to put in the dock, but I don't want it to just open to a blank Evince or LibreOffice file.
Thanks in advance! |

Hello,
Cairo-Dock will try to use a specific tool to open files with the right programs. This tool is called gfvs and if you've installed Evince, I guess you have it but I don't know what's your distribution, its version, the version of the dock, etc.
Most of GTK apps use it and if you're using Nautilus as Files Manager, simply do a right click on a pdf file / Properties / Open With in order to change the default application. |

I think the question was: is it possible to open a given file from the dock
the answer is yes (of course ), just drag and drop the file on the dock between 2 icons, it will be added in the Stack
alternatively, you could create a custom launcher with the command "evince /path/to/the/file" |
