Hi, I have a question regarding Clock applet.
When I detach clock applet from a panel (so it's on the desktop), it got minimized along other apps when I 'show desktop' / ctrl+alt+d. Is there a way so it behaves like a desklet, or at least doesn't get minimized too?
Thanks before. |

In the "show-desktop" applet, there is a choice for that : "show the desktop and the desklets"
you can also bind a shortkey for the action, instead of using the Window-Manager to trigger this action (since desklets are normal windows, the Window-manager doesn't make any difference). |

I think it depends on the Window Manager
after all, it is the one in charge of drawing windows on screen
For instance, with Compiz it works, but not with Gnome-Shell (Gnome-Shell just doesn't draw any window when the desktop is shown even if you unminimize them) |

I'm using Unity in Linux Mint 14... Doesn't that make me use Compiz as my window manager?
Sorry I'm still new on linux, I even still trying to find the DE and customization that fits me best.. |

I don't know, you can check that with:
I did the test with both Compiz and GS, didn't work with GS and worked with Compiz
PS: if you're on Mint, maybe you have the "cairo-dock session" ? it should be in list of available sessions during the log-in. |

the output is
1000 3027 2784 4 10:56 ? 00:00:27 compiz
1000 6220 6173 0 11:06 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --colour=auto compiz
I wonder what's wrong...
yeah, I have that. but as far as I know, cairo session only have traditional menu. I need at least program search because I rarely browse menu one by one (don't know if I can add one to the menu). |

Do you mean the Mintmenu ? There is a third-party applet to have it in the dock
What's the version of Compiz ? (compiz --version) |

compiz --version
Compiz 0.9.8.6
oh, you're right, there's some alternative menu applet.. maybe I can use that..
then the only problem before cairo-session is usable to me is.. I can't find any network connection applet.. there's a wifi, but no mobile broadband.. and netspeed just monitor internet usage..
and the last time I tried, for some reason, alt-tab isn't working.
and of course, there's this clock/desklet problem we're talking about as well, although it's not a must (just a bit inconvenience). |

alt-tab isn't working
that's a problem with Compiz, just open ccsm (you may have to install it) in order to activate the switcher.
I can't find any network connection applet
there is nm-applet (which is the Network-Manager applet), you just launch it and it goes in the systray (in the new systray on Ubuntu, I don't know for Mint).
about the desklets, I have the same version of Compiz and it definitely works as expected |

you have to enable the notification area to have the wifi network system. |
