I notice in Ubuntu 11.10 glx dock has added two new login / session options.
Now I use automatic login, which currently always sends me to the 'ubuntu' session.

I want the login to be the 'glx' one, and even if I :
- disable automatic login
- login using glx
- re-enable automatic login
I still get automatically logged in to the 'ubuntu' session next time I reboot.

Apparently, this can be fixed by editing /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, which for me contains:

[SeatDefaults]
greeter-session=unity-greeter
user-session=ubuntu
autologin-user=ticket

Clearly I need to change the line "user-session=ubuntu", but to what?

Yes, I confirm this bug and you have to edit this file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and to replace
user-session=ubuntu
by
user-session=cairo-dock
.

You can also use this command:
sudo sed -i "s/user-session=ubuntu/user-session=cairo-dock/g" /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Thanks!
But how do we then distinguish between the two possible glx sessions : one with effects, the other without effects?

With effects (compiz), it uses Compiz and without effect (cairo-dock-fallback), it uses Metacity. If you're not able to use Compiz, it will use Metacity (cairo-dock-fallback)
