The version of Cairo-Dock ('cairo-dock -v' in a terminal). 2.3.0~2
Your GNU/Linux distribution (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.). Debian
Or you using OpenGL or not. Yes
Your Window manager: OpenBox
Your Desktop Environment: OpenBox (?)

The taskbar applet isn't showing up, and I believe I recall that is caused by something else grabbing the task bar function. I'm using OpenBox, and I don't know how to free up the task bar, since it doesn't have one.

Hello,

The taskbar applet isn't showing up
Which "taskbar applet"? Or just the taskbar?
Do you have an indicator beside applications' icons that are launched?

I guess I mean just the taskbar; don't know the terminology. It's the section in the bottom dock that shows the icons of the running programs.

I have no other object showing those.

Here's what I'm seeing. I think the task bar is supposed to be between the two dashed lines.

hmm, the "taskbar" is working, since you have indicators under the active launchers.

maybe you can remove these separators (with right-click on them) ? or at least one of them ?

what is the most left icon ?

I guess you mean "working, but not displayed," since the indicators only show which "buckets" the active launchers are in. I think I'm right in thinking there should be a separate section where the active launcher icons are showing individually.

Maybe so, but without the taskbar it doesn't matter.

That's the Switcher.

I'm going to also post the following in the "Best Small Window Manager for CD?" thread:

I did an install of the Debian Netinstall in a separate partition, but this time I used LXDE instead of XFCE4. Cairo Dock is working perfectly there... well, the taskbar is working right. The application menu and logoff devices don't work, but that's a different problem, and I'll deal with it later.

Anyway, it makes me wonder if my "invisible taskbar" problem is a fluke and would not be repeated in a fresh install of XFCE4. I haven't decided yet to try that, but it's a possibility.

LXDE is not managed by the dock (notably the log-out commands, the vfs, etc), but we can probably fix this

well, the icons would appear if they were not linked to the launcher. try to launch a program that is not already in your dock, and it should (normally) appear.

Maybe so, but without the taskbar it doesn't matter.

yes, but it's not very aestethic to have 2 separators like that I think one of them is a user separator (not an automatic one).
