Maybe it's the quality of your icons. Best quality is .svg.
I do not notice any differences.. |

since icons in the dock are not in the same size than the original ones, there may be some loss of quality when they are resized.
so of course if you compare like you did, there are differences.
.svg icons are the only ones that will have the same quality whatever the zoom is.
I recommend you tu use svg whenever it's possible.
also it's possible that the opengl backend may have some small glitches that the cairo backend doesn't have. |

I have also remark this and it appears that the OpenGL backend causes this blur effect. |

I guess this dock does not have zoom effect.
zoom is a nice effect but zooming an image imply you will loose some quality.
although with cairo it's not very obvious (it does a good job), it's a bit more obvious with opengl.
I think that if you disable the zoom, you will get nice quality icons. |

I'm sure it doesn't solve the blur effect ... |

Did you enable the zoom? Because as said fabounet, you will get nice quality icons (icons are resize if the cursor is not on the dock and if there is a zoom).
@ fabounet: is it maybe possible to load icons two times? One time for big icons and the other time for small zoomed. |

I completely agree with fatamorgana i noticed the same thing. Doesn't matter whether you turn the zoom on or off the problem remains same. And it doesn't matter whether you use svg or not.And on the screenshot the icons on the desk have the same size yet the ones on the dock are blurred while the ones on the desktop aren't! |

the ubuntuforum topic is not about icons quality, but animations speed.
and honestly I can't see any difference when increasing the animations speed as the guy says. does anyone notice something (apart from a bigger CPU usage ? ) |

Here is another example! The first screenshot shows the dock with a set zoom of 1000(so there is no zoom at all) and the second screenshot is when i set the zoom at 2000(so default)Now can you see a difference!!!Well I can and even a pretty big and annoying one!!!
The quality of the icons is a lot better when there is a zoom. But i use the dock without the zoom.See what i have noticed is (and i may be wrong) is that depending on how you set the zoom of the icons(i.e. the "maximum zoom of the icons" option) the icons are either too sharp (as in my case) or too blurred as in case of fatamorgana.Ideal they look when this option is set to about 2000.Well thats just my impression!
P.S. I´m not using openGL! |

My solution was to go into the Advanced Settings of the dock > Appearance > Icons and then set the icon size to 48 x 48. HUGE difference in icon quality! |
