Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit - Cairo Dock 2.3.0 RC1 - AMD 64 X2 - Nvidia GT 220 - Compiz - Open GL

I'm assuming that the Status Notifier is supposed to be an improvement (replacement ?)for the panel system tray ? If so that would be great.
I can't get it to do anything other than create an icon or a disappearing icon on the desktop if I detach it. I also have no control as to where on the desktop it resides (the configuration menu has no effect on the desktop position). It stays centered on the top of the screen and appears when you mouse over it.I have the Panel Notification Area disabled in Ubuntu so that the Cairo Dock app is the only one active.

Update - I figured out why I couldn't change icon position. It was creating and putting itself on a sub dock on top of the screen.
Still no function with the app.
