I'm running cairo-dock OpenGL 2.2.0-0beta3 on Ubuntu Lucid Gnome and the icon labels go off-screen so that I can't see them. I am using the panel style, but vertically on the left side of the screen, so the icon labels of top-most icons of the top-most segment of the panel go off-screen, which is very inconvenient in my case.

Since you haven't captured the icon label, I don't know if you understand what I mean. I have a vertical panel, as you show, and have changed Behavior->System->Label Readability->Labels always horizontal to false, so that I can actually see the labels past the edge of the panel, which I can't when they're horizontal.

I reported this on LP as https://bugs.launchpad.net/cairo-dock-core/+bug/611733.

I've noticed another positioning/overflow bug having to do with the subdock of my shortcuts applet.

Some icons in the applet's subdock are overflowing outside the border. See this screenshot for what I mean:

I also have problems like that, but this is when I middle-click on Cairo Penguin or. applet handbook,...

Strange, nothing wrong for me with Ubuntu 10.10 and Cairo-Dock with Slide view.
What's your graphic card (glxinfo |grep OpenGL) and your WM (Compiz, KWin, Metacity)?

About the dialogues, I think it's a problem with Xorg 1.9

I am having this problem as well. I don't know about Xorg, but for me it's definitely Compiz making the dialogs go every which way. This happens with Compiz from the Ubuntu repositories and the 0.9 trunk series. If I use Metacity the dialogues appear correctly. Disabling the Compiz plugins "Place Windows" or "Detect Output" has no effect.

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.10 but have been experiencing this problem since 9.10 (all w/Gnome). It happens with Cairo Dock from the stable repo as well as the "daily" repo, which is what I'm using now. Before I simply used another dock, but right now Cairo Dock is the best option for me so I'd like to help get this bug fixed.

When using the Terminal applet, for example, I can see that it very briefly opens in the correct place but is then repositioned somewhere else. But using Metacity it appears correctly above the dock's terminal icon. The dialogues that pop up to ask a question, like if I am sure I would like to remove an applet, appear randomly all over the screen, and when I hover the pointer over it it jitters and changes position. Again, this is not the case with Metacity.
I have completely exhausted the options for both Compiz and Cairo Dock, including animation settings, fixed window positioning, and pretty much everything else possible through the gui configuration utilities. If you need and further input, screenshots, or whatever just ask. I find no meaningful output in any logs. The logs I checked are debug, messages, and .xsession-errors.

thanlks for the details
I'll try to find a workaround, but it would be useful to report it to the Compiz devs too (probably Compiz doesn't handle windows that are resized and moved at a quick pace, when Metacity does the job)

which bug? With the dialog view? Maybe something wrong with your config? Or the problem with the dialog?

The bug in which dialogs and applet windows go all over the screen by themselves instead of appearing above the dock.

Your welcome. I will go file a Compiz bug now. I'll report back after I do!
