HI.
I've Ubuntu Lucid 10.04, with Gnome, Cairo-dock is 2.1.3-10-lucid with OpneGL, window manager is Compiz.

Everything is working well, but OpenOffice Impress. My dock is configured to stay always on top, no auto hide, and all opening windows respect the dock area, but when I start Impress the window goes down until the bottom of the screen, behind the dock. I hard tried to find a solution in OOffice and in Cairo-dock settings, but I had no success.

This behavior is very nasty, what I can do?

Hello,

Oh, this is strange... Maybe a bug in OoImpress or in Compiz.
But maybe you can do a right click on the dock / Cairo-Dock / Quick Hide.

yes I can right click and quick hide, but:
1) no way to get back the dock, I tried to move the mouse in the dock area, click and right click but nothing to do, the dock doesn't appears back. Probably I miss some info...
2) the dock disappear, but on the right siode of the dock I have the cairo-clock applett and this doesn't disappear, stay on top

it is not in full screen mode, because the window has his frame, if you refer to maximized window I can say that many other window (i.e.: Firefox) would open in maximized size but the dock always reserve his space and the window doesn't overlap dock area.

Can you upload a screenshot (e.g. with dnd2share applet) and post the link here? Maybe it can help.

BTW it can be interesting to try the 2.2.0-0beta2 release... We have a Weekly ppa if you want to try it.

It's a bit strange that it only happens with OoImpress . Maybe it uses a special case for its window... Can you check if you still have the bug with metacity? (Alt+F2 => "metacity --replace" or "compiz --replace")

+1 for trying with another Window Manager (Metacity or Compiz)

what if you use another program at the same time and maximize its window ?

mmmhhh... I think I found the trick.
first of all I have to specify that Impress opens 2 windows: the first one is the Slide Show Edit Window, the second one is the Show Window. The first one has no problems with the dock, is the second window that produce the problem.

matttbe :

No, I don't have any bug, doing that the system switch smootly between metacity and compiz, but I started Impress when compiz was switched off and I realized that the second window of impress is opened in full screen mode, without frame and overlap the dock and the gnome panel as well: that is a normal behavior.
So I think that the problem is the interaction between Impress and Compiz: Impress wants to open a full screen mode window, compiz shrink Impress in a normal window, cairo dock think that Impress is in full screen mode and permits to use his area, but at the same time cairo detect a window so force it in background.
A little tricky ...

actually the dock does not force it in the background nor resize it.
it merely reserve around 50 pixels on the screen to X on startup, and the WM has to submit to that.

All the maximized windows I open over the Impress window respect the dock area.

no problem
but then the bug is probably inside Compiz, you can maybe report it to them.

Yesterday I asked on OOffice forum, but they answer that Ubuntu OOffice package is buggy, now I need the time to make another install of OOffice from Sun packages.
That is strange: OOffice people always said the same...

Anyway as soon as I have news I'll let you know, thanks for your help.

It's easy to say that if they do noting to have better packages

Last year we said that for CD packages too: they didn't apply our modifications, no plug-ins package, etc. But now it's much better, I don't know why

ok, nor the Original Sun-Oracle package fix the problem, but they still say that the problem is Compiz...
The never ending story of OOffice vs Compiz fight.

Anyway the weekly ppa of Cairo dock fixed the quick hide problem, now if I put the mouse pointer on the lower border the dock appears back.
Many thanks.
