Hey all,

I guess its time I introduce myself! My name is Josh and I'm a network security engineer.

For those who have read any of my post, they already know that I'm a little long winded. I could probably shorten my post to a couple of sentences but then that wouldn't be like me. "blah, blah, blah..." I promise this one won't be different.

I am a little paranoid (it comes with the occupation) so haven't really deeply involved myself with any forums. This is the first one that I have posted my first name in and certainly the first to have my real birthday (which I just changed to my real one today; I don't think anyone really believed I was born in 1789). By the way I didn't realize that fabounet and I share a birthday, until today. But considering the close-net community that is here, I feel comfortable enough to share. I am an Ubuntu user, started with Jaunty and moved to Karmic only because of the OpenGL issues Jaunty had. I am also a semi-active Ubuntuforums.org member and as an example of this being a close-net community, I've never been assisted by (or my thread commented by) the same person twice on ubuntuforums.org, whereas here I am always helped (or entertained by comments) by a select group of members, and I wanted to thank all of you for that !

Speaking of thanks, THANK YOU for Cairo-Dock! I moved to Linux after I realized that almost everything in the networking world is Linux based, and to Ubuntu after my senior engineer showed me its flexibility and ease of use. I got bored of the normal panels and looked into dock trying AWN first. The unchangeable, ugly, grey, indicator arrow turned me off of that and I tried CD. I was instantly hooked! CD's level of configure-ability, ease of use, and all around beauty is unmatched. I was able to confidently get rid of gnome-panel in less than a week and have been a strictly Cairo-Dock user since!

Thank you to all of the developers of CD, for it, and for listening to your users!

P.S.: Thanks to Google Chrome's Translation extension I can finally easily read the posts in French! YAY! Although we all know that software translations are not a good substitution for actually knowing the language, so I apologize in advance if I ever mistake a posting and comment in on a French post.

Ah that is a nice introduction.

Welcome to the forum and I hope we will continue to entertain you for a long time.

I would use your birthday as one more bargaininh chip in your battle with Fabounet

I doubt I'll need to, I'm certain he'll figure out a way to get both his function working and bring the "Keep the dock below" option back and working as great as it was too...

Welcome aboard! Those who step in never leave! Not that we are vampires keeping everyone locked in the basement, but some of us do work their coding in their basement, but that's another story. loll

Well maybe we could code a network security applet for CD?
You should use openSUSE too, it's quite great for networking!

The only network idea I have in mind is to modify the NetSpeed applet, but it has nothing to do with security and very little with networking. And fabounet doesn't want to modify it.

BTW, I doubt Google Translate could translate my French (I am based in Quebec Province in Canada and our French is different than the rest of the World when we really decide to speak our way, it's a shame all the other French places are not real French like us. loolllllll okokok I will stop here. :))

Franksuse64: I am trying to speak Quebecquois but it is hard. Whatever you say Quebec's grammar is different from the other french speaking

it is very hard for me to say things like "si j'aurais.." or "tu vas tu bien?"

onyxwolf: sorry for trolling your subject but he provoked me I had to react

Hello onyxwolf,

Welcome here! Thank you to consider this community as a close-net community

I'm certain he'll figure out a way to get both his function working and bring the "Keep the dock below" option back and working as great as it was too...

Yes, sorry for that but it's just strange to speak English between persons with the same native language (other than English)
But you can see that all the project part is in English like the wiki, the announcements, the dock, the documentation for dev, etc.

Oh I know it and I certainly didn't mean to imply that you should . I just find your posts informative and entertaining. I am actually extremely appreciative of the dual-language support! Makes me wish I wouldn't have been such a slacker in high school and really took French seriously!!!

And Frank I will give openSUSE a try (how does it do in a VM?). As far as applets for network security, I can't think of anything network security that really would benefit by being in an applet... Who knows someone might.

Yes, I know that there are a few tools in order to easily install some good network stuffs (with 2 or 3 clicks ) but you can also install Gnome

So I take it openSUSE is KDE based? I've never tried KDE so I can't judge it. Gives me more of a reason to try (but more of a reason to put in a VM too)!!!

BTW Kirby rocks... (>'o')>

1 good reason : to test the dock in this environment
I've myself a KDE session now, just for tests; I prefer Gnome (well, actually, I prefer Compiz+CD+pidgin+xmms+....

No, openSUSE is both Gnome and KDE based. Until latest stable version (11.2) openSUSE was installing by default with gnome. It now changed to KDE, but gnome still has an excellent support. Try the DVD version and you have all the choices of all the packages at installation.

It works pretty well in VM. It has built-in guestadditions package for VBox. Under VMWare I don't know.

My openSUSE is KDE, but I have a lot of gnome packages installed too, even fabounet was surprised to see one or 2 gnome packages passing through the CD debug. loll
