Hi everybody,

Recently I've made the switch from Compiz to Kwin (was already using KDE4 FWIW), and I've found some strange behaviour with C-D when using it under Kwin.

I have setup the fire animation for applications demanding my attention in C-D settings. It works perfectly everytime I get an email (I always have Kontact's window maximized) or an IM message. However, when using C-D under Kwin, there's a small bug. If I switch windows in the same desktop using the dock, somehow that "demand my attention" animation is triggered on the windows I was previously focused on. If I switch windows again to it, so as to stop that animation, the same thing happens with the other window (the one I had focused). This problem is more or less endless (in the sense that I got fed up and didn't bother to see if it persists beyond the 15th or 20th switch :P). The only way then to pacify that animation is by hovering the icon in the dock with the mouse, without clicking.

As far as I could see, it does not happen (or at least, it does not happen most of the time) when switching to a window on another desktop. Of course, switching applications by focusing its window directly with the mouse, does not trigger this behaviour. Maybe something Kwin does under some circumstances?

Anyway, hope it's not too much hassle. If debugging is needed, I'm glad to help :).

Cheers

Godlikearg.-

Hi,

Yes, we know that Kwin (and other apps of KDE) doesn't respect as well as Compiz rules fixed by Freedesktop. Compiz is not perfect but Kwin est worse
Do you use the latest stable release? There is a new KDE-integration plug-in. But it's not finished and we still search a dev. which uses KDE every days to finish the work .

It can be interesting to report these bugs to Kwin dev. and/or improve KDE-integration plug-in but ... . BTW Fab is absent for a few days.

Hi matttbe

Yes, I use latest stable KDE release (4.3.4) and a C-D version compiled from bzr ~a month ago. I was planning to test out KDE4.4 beta when I had some time. Which is the current state of the KDE integration plugin? If i get some free time around holidays (and compilations go smooth, since I use Gentoo on most of my machines) maybe I could try both a latest bzr version of C-D and KDE4.4 beta.

Fab we miss you

yes indeed KWin acts very strangely and has many incoherences in its behavior
here I think it has something to do with the bug we dealt with recently : on click on the dock, it makes the mouse leave/enter the dock.
probably it disturb the order of focused windows, triggering the demand of attention.
unfortunately there is no correct way to handle there behaviors, the only solution would be to report it to the Kwin devs.
