First, apologies for not speaking french, and second apologies if this is a dumb question

Is there a command line option for loading a different config file other than the standard one (which is modified by the conf manager)?

I ask because I would like to have two docks on startup, one on the left of the screen containing apps/programs and one on the right of the screen containing folders. These would obviously require different config files for each dock, which can be done pretty easily; it's applying the different config file which I'm having trouble with.

As an example, using wbar you can write the command

wbar -config $HOME/config

And the wbar dock will load with the specified config file. Is this possible with cairo-dock?

Many thanks.
Hugh

First, apologies for not speaking french,

Arrg....how can you survive without knowing french?

and second apologies if this is a dumb question

It's ok we have all been guilty of this

To answer your question....

cairo-dock --help

One option is -d to allow you to select your configuration directory... So copy the existing one and modify it as you wish.

I would like to have two docks on startup, one on the left of the screen containing apps/programs and one on the right of the screen containing folders.

this can also be done with a single instance of Cairo-Dock !
if you are under the 2.1.0, this can be done easily (right-click on a launcher -> move -> to a new dock.
then place this new dock wherever you want, otherwise edit a launcher and change the name of its container to anything.
They will have the same look though, which might not be what you want.

I don't mind the look, having them both the same would be fine. Going to add the cairo-dock repo so I can update to 2.1.0, thanks for the quick replies guys!

I would like an option to preload icons images of the menu in ram. The first time i click it, icons are not shown, they appear few seconds later

I think this preload is managed by Gnome-Menu but we can maybe force it.
@fabounet: is it possible?

if it's about the Application Menu, it's in the new 3.1 version
