I use the cairo clock desklet, detached from dock and placed in the bottom right corner of the screen.
In the configuration window I see that my preferred position (x ; y) is -170 -63. If I accept this configuration it automatically switch to -170 -135. The same when I restart the dock or the pc.
Probably that is due to some overlapping between the clock aerea and the dock area, but my question is: if I can set that position by manually dragging the clock there, and the clock configuration sense the right coordinates, why it can't record and use always those coordinationates?

I think it s a known bug what you have to do is when you manually move your desklet you have to unlock the size config of your desklet (pause buttons )and your new position will be set up

yes if you set the option "reserve the space for the dock"

ok, but even if there is no overlapping (I tried to reduce the size of the dock and the the clock) the position of the clock is not fixed.

It seems that the "pause" button can fix the position, at the next reboot I will get the confirmation.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Actually on Ubuntu Jaunty the problem is fixed with the "Pause" button, but on the new Ubuntu release Karmic, that is still alpha 6 but next week will be released the Beta version, that trick doesn' t work.

Any idea why?

what do you call the "pause" button ?
I'm feeling Karmic will be extremely buggy when it will come out

ah I see, did you mean the butotn that links 2 values in the config panel ?
anyway if you move your desklet by dragging it with the mouse (not by the config panel), it should stay where it is, except if it is on the reserved space of the dock (the WM will move it away then)

as you can see in this screenshot, the two areas are not overlapping, but the position of the clock is not fixed there, each time I reboot I find it over the two icons (home & computer).

no, I don' t mean that, probably I definitely misunderstood what talebot65 said, so please can you explain what does it means to use the "pause buttons"?

Thank you so much.

P.S.: After some tries I understand that the problem is compiz, when compiz is not running at boot, the clock stay in the position I want. If compiz is running at boot the clock is moved up.
May be some compiz settings can change the clock position?

Compiz is the WM, so eventually, it's it that places the windows on screen.
if you don't have this problem with Metacity, it may mean that it's a bug in Compiz.
but also, the 2 zones are too much close, each time the dock will grow up a little (new icon), they will overlap.

I tried to ask on the compiz forum, but nobody can answer to my question.
Probably one of those days, fixing other tricks, they will hit also with my problem...
Thx a lot for your help
