Hello,
Ubuntu 9.04
Intel X3100
I'm using Cairo dock 2.0.8 in OpenGL and it causes my PC to hang randomly....with no warning....especially when I'm opening or closing a window. If I leave the PC without any activity, nothing happens. It is only when I open or close a window or sometimes try to watch a video (open or close it) that everything freezes! The only thing for me to do then is to press the power button to put off the PC and restart it. Its not safe to turn off the PC this way, I know and I'm hoping that someone out there can help me....Cairo dock -c works fine with no probs, its only Cairo dock -o that is problematic.
Help! |

That's exactly the problem I had on Jaunty with the last drivers ... It worked ... but not very usable with these carshes !
... But it's worth with Karmic alpha 3 -> cairo-dock with cairo backend doesn't work well ... and with opengl, it's totally unusable ! But it doesn't seem to crash anymore ! (I hope it will be corrected when Karmic arrived )
So I advise you to keep your Jaunty and launch the dock with the cairo backend |

Hello Matttbe,
I changed the command for cairo dock, in startup applications, from cairo-dock -o to cairo-dock -o -i and the dock works beautifully. The hanging problem though seemed to persist so I tried minimizing the compiz settings as much as possible and this seems to have taken care of it. I did have issues with some applications like firefox and vlc that still caused the hangs....so I use opera and movie player instead. I also added Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" to my xorg.conf.
These changes seem to have taken care of the prob (atleast until now)...lets hope it stays that way!
Thanks! |
