Hello,

I am experiencing a annoying phenomenon:
After logging in my cairo dock looks like this:
http://moserei.de/files/cairo/before-reload.png
When I reload my window manager (compiz fusion, by clicking "Reload Window Manager" in the CF icon menu), it has the desired look:
http://moserei.de/files/cairo/after-reload.png
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04,
compiz 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1,
GTK window decorator decorates my windows,
cairo dock 2.0.8 from http://repository.glx-dock.org/ubuntu jaunty.

Only reason I can think of, is that cairo is started to early (before compiz).
Can anyone help?

Thanks a lot,
Moser

Yes, our wiki

Recurrent problems :
Gnome without Compiz (with Metacity instead) : launch gconf-editor, and open apps / metacity / general and enable composing-manager.

or launch the dock with a delay on startup (I think it's also in the wiki)

Hi,

Thanks. I looked at the wiki before I posted :-). I use compiz, not metacity...

There indeed is a note on delaying the start of cairo-dock, must have skipped this one in the first place:

Will try that.

Finally registered myself

Hmm doesn't look like the timing is a problem. It even has a black background when I start cairo manually when compiz is running.

boot, login, start cairo automaticly => back bg, reload compiz => transparent bg
boot, login, start cairo manually => black bg, reload compiz => transparent bg
boot, login, reload compiz, start cairo manually => transparent bg
boot, login, start cairo manually, reload compiz => transparent bg

Any ideas? Could it be an issue with compiz fusion?

Thanks
Moser

Try with a longer delay (25 or 30 seconds).

If you have again this bug : How did you launch Compiz ? Do you use Cairo-Dock with or without OpenGL ?

If you launch Compiz with a launcher that you have added with the Session manager, check if you have set "compiz --replace". Or try to replace it by 'sh -c "compiz --replace & && sleep 15 && cairo-dock"' with -o or -c for Cairo-Dock.
If not, add with the Session manager a new command : "compiz --replace" and Cairo-Dock with a delay.

Hmm, rather looks like a problem with compiz fusion now. Never noticed that compiz wasn't really working cause I reloaded it soon after login. Will post again, when I solved the problem.
