I just now tried cairo-dock with intel GMA3100 again.

UXA disabled :
Cairo-Dock(launching with -o option)'s background stays black, even if compiz enabled, and starting the dock with -i option forced me logout...

UXA disabled with trying to load DRI2 module :
got the same result like the above, DRI2 could not be enabled.
egrep "(GLX|DRI)" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) Loading extension DRI2
(==) AIGLX enabled
(II) Loading extension GLX
(II) Loading extension XFree86-DRI
(WW) intel(0): DRI2 requires UXA
(II) intel(0): [DRI] installation complete
(II) intel(0): 0x006ff000-0x0f3fffff: DRI memory manager (242692 kB)
(II) intel(0): direct rendering: XF86DRI Enabled
(WW) intel(0): Option "DRI2" is not used
(II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable

I tested it with intel driver version 2.6.3-4 and 2.7.99.1-3. The dock works with both drivers.
My xorg.conf options for the intel driver:

Option "DRI" "true"
    Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
    Option "FrameBufferCompression" "true"
    Option     "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"

Then start the dock with
"cairo-dock -o -i"
. That worked for me.

I Do not think using option DRI true and UXA at the same time is the right things to do...
Because they are to different types of rendering DRI and DRI2..

"cairo-dock -o -i" for me = xorg crash...

There is also a ubuntu repository on launchpad which has the latest Intel Video drivers(I think 2.7.99-1) for Hardy, Intrepid, Jaunty and Karmic.

And no i'm not an Intel developer

A few days later i installed some new mesa and intel-drm drivers and everything got messed up. With Cairo-Dock in opengl-mode my X-Desktop crashed the whole system. I could only reboot using the MagicSysReq. So, i switched back to the cairo version. But since a few days after updating from svn everything works fine again with the opengl dock. So i think the Cairo-dock team fixed some bugs Thank you guys

Did you install with xorg-edgers? You had to install the kernel 2.6.30.9 to see the improvement I did the same mistake and i ended up with a Black screen and all the problems
